In last week’s coaching blog I wrote about the fact that the image you carry of your child in your mind, influences the way you behave and communicate, which in turn influences the way your child behaves. So what you ‘see’ in your mind, is what you get.
It’s important to also know that thoughts and images happen immediately together in the brain. You have a happy thought and your brain immediately sees happy images. And, of course, the opposite is also true. Whether you are aware of this, or not, it is happening. Your thoughts and the associated images have consequences for your children.
Your children need you to fill your mind with happy thoughts and happy images of them. They need you to always be thinking how smart and creative and talented they are. They need you to continually think of them as ‘getting it together.’ They need you to think about them, every day, as being capable of doing truly remarkable things. They need you to ‘see’ them in the future as being successful and fulfilled, proud of who they are. They need this because when you do this, you will speak to them and engage with them in the most positive ways! They will pick up the energy from you that they are great. And they will be great!
You would imagine that thinking this way would be so natural and easy for a parent. Yet it often isn’t so. Having happy thoughts and seeing positive images is not something you can fake. You either are or you aren’t. And kids know when you aren’t. Today’s coaching audio is a guided visualization that shows you how to do this in the most powerful way. (See audio below).
To listen to this it is best to use headphones. Go to a quiet place where you will not be interrupted, sit comfortably in a chair that supports you, close your eyes and go along with my words. If all kinds of thoughts keep coming up, tune into your breathing. This will help you stay focused.
This kind of guided visualization or meditation actually shifts your brain waves from the distressed, anxious, worried, hassled, thinking, thinking, thinking beta waves to the calm, serene joyful brain waves called alpha. And all it takes is 8 minutes.
Do this at least once every day. You will soon feel the difference. Best of all so will your children!
