Stress is a truly terrible condition. It eats away at our spirit, body and brain. It is the trigger for literally every emotional, physical or mental problem we may have. I must believe that, given the choice, every one of us would be glad to remove the thing that is causing us to feel emotionally bad and physically sick. Yet the traditional medical world largely encourages us to use medications to manage these problems without spending time giving us the tools to deal with the stress factor itself. Doesn’t this seem illogical? So the medications ease the discomfort or pain while the stress continues to eat away at us.
My own personal experience with stress and my experiences with clients is that we can talk about reducing stress forever. We can intellectualize and rationalize and justify and ‘yes but’ this issue of stress while we continue to live our lives on the edge … until something gives. And then what? We need more medication or may even need surgery. And then back to rationalizing and yes butting about reducing stress – until the next stress-related emotional or physical event. This is a truly awful merry go round. Interesting that a ‘merry go round’ is defined as: a revolving, circular platform on which people may sit or ride, usually to the accompaniment of mechanical or recorded music. Paints a sad picture of how we can just fall into the trap of going around and around to the accompaniment of our own music (read excuses) that never changes. And look for every reason not to get off. (As I say, I have been there).
And as your children watch you do this, so your stress eats away at them. The question is this: Once we do actually truly make the choice to get off this merry go round (which is not that merry really) what do we do then? How do we reduce our stress? Just saying, ‘okay, I am ready, I will stop stressing’, is not going to cut it. We need the TOOLS to de-stress.
The Parents Take Charge Golden Light Parent Meditation
MEDITATION is an amazing de-stressing tool. When you meditate you are actually changing the brain waves from the harassed, distressed, anxious, worried, hassled, thinking, thinking, thinking waves called beta waves to the calm, serene joyful brain waves called alpha.
